VAGENDA

 

How do women use their visual journals, diaries, books and artworks to record their personal thoughts, aspirations, fears, fantasies, memories, project notes, sketches, poems, health records, to-do lists, shopping lists, schedules, food cravings... all the manic layers of concerns and interests that is womanhood?

This is a book and mixed media arts exhibition project.  All types of book structures, book-related sculptures, altered books, zines, and bookplates (yeah, that opens it up to some printmaking and works on paper) and any mixed media works expressly relevant to Vagenda will be included.  Store-bought journals and diaries are allowed. Previous works are allowed.

I hope to get a wide range of book and art content.  While my book art is body-related and frequently feminist, yours is whatever you want.  I expect to see a crazy range of personal topics, conceptualizations, ideas to push the definition of "book", poetry, hand writing...who knows.  Obviously, some "secret vagina" art (okay, not so secret) is always appreciated!

I hope to get one-third of the books/artworks displayed as wall-hung pieces to create a more visual presentation.  Pedestals, shelves, tabletops, etc. will also be used for displaying the books/artworks. No size restrictions - at this point.

The exhibition proposal process has many stages. This is the beginning of our journey towards creating an exciting book(arts) exhibition. Once I have images from all the "Vagenda" artists and all the other content organized, I can begin to find the first home for our exhbition, and hopefully to many more venues afterwards.
